Ground-up 3-story medical building totaling 59,434 s.f.. Interior build-out for the emergency hospital on 1st Floor (21,978 s.f), and shell space on 2nd and 3rd Floor (37,456 s.f.)

Kingwood Emergency Hospital is guided by the principles of providing faster, safer, and cleaner care than traditional hospitals by providing personalized, concierge service. Their boutique facility is licensed as a specialty hospital in the State of Texas and is accredited by DNV GL NIAHO for Medicare compliance and quality management.

Services

The hospital contains 13 ER treatment rooms, 6 private med-surge inpatient beds, on-site pharmacy and lab and ancillary support spaces currently on the 1st Floor, with future expansion plans on the 2nd Floor shell space to house additional Med-Surg patient beds.

Design Approach

The hospital lobby welcomes visitors by way of a multi-story lobby which is open, airy, and allows plenty of natural light through the energy efficient curtain wall. A highly visible reception areas with sculptural pendant lighting overhead complements the initial visitor experience. Wood panels and large format porcelain tile gives visitors/staff a natural ambiance of “not quite residential, not quite institutional” feel. Separate entrances and waiting areas with negative pressure is provided to isolate those who may be sick or infected with those who are not.

Design Feature

The design of the ED treatment rooms around a racetrack with an open nurse station and central work/storage areas allows for constant monitoring of the patients by nursing staff, shorter walking distances to the support areas, and quicker response times. The average wait time to be administered care by KEH doctors is usually within 20 mins. and the average total time spend for patients at the facility is under 3 hours. The lab allows testing results and analysis to be completed on-premises within minutes instead of hours (measured to be approx.. 1/3-1/4 of the time required by surrounding competing hospitals). The patient rooms are designed to be within a short distance from the nurse station, all-private (to ensure privacy and comfort for the patients) and are negatively pressured to the corridor. The patient rooms are capable of housing observation patients (where patients are discharged within 24 hours) to more severe patients where stay require weeks and weeks.

 

The third floor is occupied by physician practices whose patients can be readily admitted to the hospital. This allows convenient patient/health provider access within the same building, contributing to affordable health by reducing health delivery time, emergent call travel and routine visits.
